Latin America’s biggest MMA event is back in Rio de Janeiro. Jungle Fight 142 takes place on November 22 at Riocentro, in Barra Olímpica. The last edition in the state capital was in June 2023. TV Globo, Sportv and Combate will broadcast it live.

The night features two title fights. In the main event, former champion André Monstro faces Junio Mendes for the heavyweight belt. André, from Bahia, has won five of his last six fights and is looking to reclaim his reign. Junio, from Minas Gerais, has five wins in six fights and is coming off four straight knockouts.

The women’s bantamweight belt will also be on the line. Champion Layze Cerqueira, also from Bahia, steps in to defend her title against Lorrany Santos, who represents the state of Rio. Layze is on a hot streak with seven straight wins, six of them by submission. Lorrany has won six of her eight fights.

The card will feature 15 athletes from Rio de Janeiro. Jungle Fight president Wallid Ismail celebrated the return to the state and stressed the mission of strengthening MMA in Rio.

“Coming back to Rio de Janeiro is very important. We have a history with the sport here and a new generation asking for its chance. Bringing Jungle Fight to Rio gives the state’s athletes the opportunity to show what they’re worth. I thank Governor Cláudio Castro and Loterj president Hazenclever Cançado for believing in sport as a tool for social inclusion”.

Wallid also highlighted Jungle Fight’s social impact, now boosted by the Legião da Boa Vontade in its community initiatives.

“Jungle Fight has always opened doors for athletes from underserved communities and social projects. With the support of the Legião da Boa Vontade, we will expand that work. Sport changes lives, and we want more young people to have that chance, not only as athletes but also by carrying the lessons of martial arts into their lives, whatever their profession,” he concluded.

Loterj president Hazenclever Cançado highlighted Jungle Fight’s role in strengthening sport in the state.

“Loterj is proud to support Jungle Fight, an event that energizes the sport, reveals talent and strengthens Rio de Janeiro. We believe in sport as an instrument of inclusion, diversity and social transformation. Our commitment is to people, to the opportunities sport creates and to the dreams it helps fulfill”.
